Optimize your Joomla Site Loading Time

Almost 90 of the 100 Joomla sites are not well optimized and so it takes time to load or open. This way,you are either going to be kicked out from the Search Engines or just lose your valuable visitors or leads.

Well,there are many stuffs which needs to be looked at for optimizing a Joomla Site.

Here are few,which I mostly use or do for my clients;

  • Get FIREBUG addon for Firefox and click the NET tab from it. Enable all the scripts and console and images detection there. Refresh your site. While the site is loading,keep a close watch to FIREBUG NET tab and see,what is loading and what is where. It will clearly show you,which part takes time in loading the site and what all unnecessary files or scripts run,while the site opens. Take a good report from it and optimze well.
  • Get YSLOW extension from Yahoo! and install that with Firebug. It gives advanced Performance Detection options.
  • The main reason for Joomla sites loading slowly are many unnecessary JS files and images. You need to remove all of the stuffs,which you know that the site is not using.
  • Try to run your site minimal number of extensions. More extensions,more time in loading. Try to achieve the stuffs from the core .
  • Another main reason is SEF components and the SEF URLs. If you switch off your SEF,then you will see,just 50-60 queries being run from the DEBUG mode,but with SEF enabled,you gonna have around 300-1000 queries (depends on the site) run at the same time,making your site slower.

Well,i will be back with some more eseful tips and tricks. Try those above stuffs for now :)

Nice post. I did what you suggested as my site was taking 14 seconds to load. Found a png file that was could not be found.. was taking up 8 seconds.. fixed that up and changed a few png files to jpg and got my site load speed below 3 seconds. I will be doing some more site optimisation but this is a great start. the website i did it on was http://www.quotemywheels.com.au FYI

That's great, I never thought about Nostradamus in the OR (Insights from Eugene Litvak at IHI) like that before.
