How to Upgrade your Joomla Site

This post is all about how to Upgrade your Joomla Site to the latest Joomla version,in order to make your site hack-free and prevent your site from the security bugs.

Well,first of all,goto your existing site's Admin Panel and under the HELP tab,click on SYSTEM INFO.

Upgrade your Joomla Site You will reach the page with all the Sytem Info for your Site and the Joomla version and the PHP settings and the server configuration,etc.

Click on SYSTEM INFO tab in that SYSTEM INFO page. It will say you your current Joomla version. Just note that.

Now goto this page of JoomlaCode and check for the upgradation pack for your site's Joomla version.

If your current Joomla version is 1.5.6 ,then search for Joomla_1.5.6_to_1.5.9-Stable-Patch_Package.zip and if you current version is Joomla 1.5.7 ,then go for Joomla_1.5.7_to_1.5.9-Stable-Patch_Package.zip .

If you are running Joomla 1.5.8 ,then go for Joomla_1.5.8_to_1.5.9-Stable-Patch_Package.zip .

Just download the zipped pack and then unzip the files and folders to a new folder on your desktop.

Dont touch any file or folder from it. Just unzip and let it remain in that new folder.

Now goto your FTP client and open your public_html folder of your site ,if your site is at the root.

If you site is any sub-directory,then goto that subdirectory/public_html .

You should have your internet connection swicthed on lol . :P

Now you are ready to upgrade your site.

ALSO MAKE SURE, YOU HAVE TAKEN A COMPLETE SITE BACKUP VIA JOOMLAPACK. THEN PROCEED FOR UPGRADATION.

Just open that new folder on the FOLDER MANAGER in the FTP client ,where you extracted all of your files and folders from the downloaded pack..

Select all of the files and folders from it and just start upload.

Thats it!!

It will aks you to over-write files and folders. Just press YES TO ALL.

After the upload process is finished,you can again goto your admin panel and check at the System Info page for your current Joomla version.

BOOM,you should have it now..

You are completely secure now. But remember,whenever any new version of Joomla comes up,just upgrade your site in the same manner and you can keep your site safe always.

NOTE : Before starting the upload procedure,make sure you check the current Joomla version carefully and then download the particluar upgrade pack.
